A note before you read: These are three names I’m personally watching this week, one per category. Not tips, not predictions, just where the story from this week’s recap points, with real entry prices published so you can see exactly what I’d be paying today.
High Voltage: Meta Platforms (META)
Meta is the clearest example of this week’s story. Revenue grew 26%, the stock fell about 7% anyway, and the debate is now about how much it will spend on AI and how it will pay for it.
Why it fits High Voltage: It is a large, profitable company with a fast-growing business, a new AI assistant that reportedly passed 10 million downloads in 40 days, and a share price that has just been reset by the market. The upside case is that the spending pays off. The downside case is that it doesn’t.
Entry price: $642.62
Risk to flag: Capital spending of $135–145 billion, a possible credit-rating hit if borrowing grows, and a market that is currently punishing AI spending. It can fall further before it recovers, and it can do so on a single headline.
Fortress: iShares 1-3 Year Treasury Bond ETF (SHY)
With the 2-year Treasury yielding about 4.7% and the market worried about both oil and AI, a fund of short-term US government bonds is about as quiet a corner as exists.
Why it fits Fortress: It holds short-maturity Treasuries, so its price barely moves when rates change, and it pays monthly income. It is a place for money you don’t want to gamble with while the week’s big events (Fed, GDP, inflation) play out.
Entry price: $81.50
Risk to flag: If inflation surprises higher and the Fed turns more aggressive, short-term bond prices can still dip a little. The yield is lower than what longer bonds pay, and it will not keep up with a hot stock market.
Cash Flow: Realty Income (O)
Known as “The Monthly Dividend Company,” Realty Income owns thousands of properties leased to retailers and other businesses, and pays rent through to shareholders every month.
Why it fits Cash Flow: Rates near 5% have pushed the share price down, which has lifted the dividend yield to roughly 5.7%. It is a straightforward income pick that doesn’t depend on AI, oil, or earnings surprises.
Entry price: $56.89
Risk to flag: REITs are sensitive to interest rates, and the Fed meeting and inflation data are both this week. If yields rise again, the share price can keep falling even while the dividend is paid.
The AF Core Global Approach
- High Voltage (growth stocks): real upside potential, real volatility, always sized with that in mind.
- Fortress (stable ETFs, bonds): long-term, low-drama positioning.
- Cash Flow (REITs, dividends): passive income that shows up whether or not you’re watching the market.
